The Director of the Executive Bureau for the Acceleration of Aid Absorption and Support for Policy Reforms, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, met with the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Mr. Sarhad Fattah, and his accompanying delegation in Aden.
The two sides discussed the economic and developmental conditions in Yemen and the challenges facing the country, especially given the growing need for external funding to support essential projects that contribute to stabilizing living conditions, including vital sectors such as electricity, health and education. They emphasized the importance of shifting from immediate interventions to investing in sustainable development projects and long-term interventions.
During the meeting, Al-Zouba outlined the Bureau’s role in supporting government institutions and enhancing their capacity to implement reform policies and accelerate the absorption of donor commitments. She stressed the importance of enhancing transparency to ensure that financial resources and grants are directed toward supporting effective development projects. The efforts of the Yemeni government and its commitment to its responsibilities were also reviewed, including paying salaries and providing essential services to citizens, despite the economic and political challenges facing the country, as well as the obstacles imposed by the Houthi militias and their impact on Yemen’s economic situation.
